DESCRIPTION:The Henrico County Police Division in collaboration with the Virginia Dept. of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will host a Child Safety Seat Check-Up event on Saturday\, Sept. 26\, 2026\, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Target at White Oak Village (4521 S. Laburnum Avenue\, Richmond\, VA 23231) as part of National Seat Check Saturday\, marking the culmination of Child Passenger Safety Week. \nWHO\nThis FREE event is an opportunity for Richmond metro-area residents to make sure their child’s car seat/booster seat is installed properly. \nFACTS\nAccording to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)\, while most parents and caregivers are confident that they have correctly installed their child’s car seat\, almost half (46%) have been installed incorrectly. A properly used/installed car seat can reduce the risk of death for your child by 71%. \nWHAT TO BRING\nIf you plan to attend the event\, please bring the following items/individuals\, if possible: \n\nThe seats with accompanying manuals\n\n\nChild(ren) who will be using the seats\, if possible\n\n\nAny caregivers (ie. family members\, nannies/sitters) who transport the child(ren) in the seats so everyone can be helped and educated on proper use\n\nThis event is currently scheduled rain or shine. In the event of severe inclement weather\, the event will be postponed to a later date. \nMORE INFORMATION\nIn the event there is a large number of vehicles waiting for the check-up\, Henrico Police does offer Child Safety Seat Check-Ups by appointment. An online form can be filled out and one of our Child Passenger Safety Technicians will work to schedule an appointment with you. \nIf you have further questions about this event\, you can email police@henrico.gov. \nLearn more about finding the right car seat or booster seat for your child.

DESCRIPTION:The Henrico Police Animal Shelter is hosting an outdoor pet adoption event (rain or shine). Cats and dogs are looking for loving homes! \nCommunity members are invited to meet pets available for adoption and help future animals in need of care. Thanks to the sponsorships from Henrico Humane Society\, Furbish Thrift and the William A. Harrison Jr. Foundation\, any dogs who are already spayed or neutered are ready to go home with their new families the same day as adoption! \nPets who have not already been spayed or neutered will have additional fees for their procedures. The spay or neuter will be scheduled upon adoption and will be ready to go home with their families shortly after! \nThese events are wonderful opportunities for attendees to meet our pets in-person and to see who they connect with! \nAdopters must be 18 or older\, but are not required to be Henrico County residents. DESCRIPTION:Henrico Volunteer Program in collaboration with VCU Day of Service brings together faculty\, staff\, students\, and community partners for a day of meaningful service across the Greater Richmond region. \nRather than creating one-off volunteer projects\, we work alongside organizations that are already making an impact in their communities. \nTogether we strengthen partnerships\, learn from one another\, and invest in thriving communities. \nVolunteer Description:Volunteers will assist Henrico Recreation & Parks staff with restoring approximately 100 feet of washed-out trail at Cheswick Park. Volunteers will help move rip rap stone down the trail using a bucket-brigade system. Participants will pass five-gallon buckets of rock from person to person along the trail and return empty buckets back up the line. Buckets will not be filled beyond a comfortable lifting weight. Once the washouts are filled\, volunteers will also help cover the area with branches\, leaves\, and other natural woody debris from the surrounding forest. \nPhysical Requirements:This project involves walking on uneven\, sloped terrain\, standing for extended periods\, lifting and carrying buckets of stone\, and repetitive movement. Volunteers should be comfortable with physical outdoor work. \nWhat We Provide:Recreation & Parks staff will provide the rip rap stone\, buckets\, and other necessary materials. \nVolunteer Duties & Responsibilities: This is a hands-on outdoor trail restoration project for 15 volunteers who are comfortable with physical work and uneven terrain. \nTime Commitment:\n9am – 1pm \nRegister to volunteer

DESCRIPTION:The Henrico County Police Animal Protection Unit will hold its Fall Rabies Clinic on Oct. 17\, 2026 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Western Henrico Government Center (4301 E. Parham Road). \nRabies vaccinations are $20 each\, cash only! Cats must be in carriers. Pets from all localities are welcome. \nRegistration and payment are done first inside the Administration building in the Cashier’s Office. You will then proceed to veterinarian on the first level of the parking deck adjacent to the Administration Building. \nHenrico County dog licenses will also be available. The lifetime license fee is $10. The license is for the life of the dog and is valid as long as the dog’s owner resides in the County and the dog’s rabies vaccination is kept current. The license is void if the dog does not receive a rabies vaccination within 30 days of the expiration of the dog’s current rabies vaccination. \nContact the Henrico Police Animal Shelter at 804-727-8801 (open Monday-Saturday\, 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.) with any further questions.
