Varina community meeting to include discussion of Title V air permits with Department of Environmental Quality

Varina District Supervisor Tyrone E. Nelson will host a Varina Community Meeting on Thursday, June 26 for a discussion of Title V air permits with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. The permits are designed to improve compliance with the federal Clean Air Act by clarifying what source facilities must do to control air pollution, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. at Varina Area Library, 1875 New Market Road. Residents may participate in person or virtually via Webex. Residents are encouraged to submit questions in advance to [email protected] or share them during the meeting through Webex’s chat feature. Henrico, Pyramid Healthcare break ground on recovery center for detoxification, treatment of substance-use disorders

By summer 2026, Henrico County will be home to a 60-bed recovery center where individuals struggling with addiction can be guided safely through their withdrawal symptoms and receive short-term, stabilizing treatment for substance-use disorder.

The Henrico County Detox & Residential Treatment Center will be built and operated through a public-private partnership between Henrico and Pyramid Healthcare. Officials held a groundbreaking ceremony this morning to kick off construction on the county’s Eastern Government Center campus, 3820 Nine Mile Road.

“The Henrico Pyramid recovery center will be nothing short of lifesaving for those in our community who are struggling to break the brutal grip of addiction," said Henrico Supervisor Tyrone E. Nelson, of the Varina District. “It will offer care and treatment from medical professionals with both the experience and expertise to guide individuals as they detoxify, stabilize and begin their journeys to recovery. I am grateful to Pyramid Healthcare for partnering with Henrico County to realize and build upon the recommendations of our Recovery Roundtable. The result will be a model facility that addresses a vital community need while operating at no cost to our taxpayers.”

Henrico releases ‘request for interest’ for arena-anchored mixed-use development at Best Products Reimagined site

The Henrico Economic Development Authority issued a “request for interest” (RFI) solicitation for a mixed-use development on property that once served as headquarters for the retail chain Best Products, along interstates 95 and 295 and East Parham Road. Master developers, arena operators and other prospective partners will have until Monday, July 28, to respond formally with submissions of a “statement of interest” in the development. Henrico Sports & Events Center to Remain Home of Prestigious A-10 Women’s Basketball Championship

The Henrico Sports & Events Center has hosted the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Basketball Championship since 2024. The marquee event, which is held in early March, had been planned to remain in Henrico through 2026. With the A-10's announcement, the tournament will extend its stay in Henrico through 2029.
