SUMMARY:Sundays at the Shelter pet adoption
DESCRIPTION:The Henrico Police Animal Shelter is hosting an outdoor pet adoption event (rain or shine). Cats and dogs are looking for loving homes! \nCommunity members are invited to meet pets available for adoption and help future animals in need of care. Thanks to the sponsorships from Henrico Humane Society\, Furbish Thrift and the William A. Harrison Jr. Foundation\, any dogs who are already spayed or neutered are ready to go home with their new families the same day as adoption! \nPets who have not already been spayed or neutered will have additional fees for their procedures. The spay or neuter will be scheduled upon adoption and will be ready to go home with their families shortly after! \nThese events are wonderful opportunities for attendees to meet our pets in-person and to see who they connect with! \nAdopters must be 18 or older\, but are not required to be Henrico County residents. Adopters will need to have a valid photo ID and pay an adoption fee\, which varies upon the spay/neuter status of the pet. \nAll pets available for adoption can be viewed online on our PetFinder and AdoptaPet pages.

SUMMARY:Sept. 23 Child Safety Seat Check-Up Event
DESCRIPTION:The Henrico County Police Division in collaboration with Henrico County Recreation & Parks will host a Child Safety Seat Check-Up event on Wednesday\, Sept. 23\, 2026\, from 9 a.m. to noon at Deep Run Recreation Center (9900 Ridgefield Parkway\, Richmond\, VA 23233) as part of Child Passenger Safety Week. \nWHO\nThis FREE event is an opportunity for Richmond metro-area residents to make sure their child’s car seat/booster seat is installed properly. The event will include a variety of vendors highlighting children’s safety\, children’s activities\, and giveaways! \nFACTS\nAccording to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)\, while most parents and caregivers are confident that they have correctly installed their child’s car seat\, almost half (46%) have been installed incorrectly. A properly used/installed car seat can reduce the risk of death for your child by 71%. \nWHAT TO BRING\nIf you plan to attend the event\, please bring the following items/individuals\, if possible: \n\nThe seats with accompanying manuals\n\n\nChild(ren) who will be using the seats\, if possible\n\n\nAny caregivers (ie. family members\, nannies/sitters) who transport the child(ren) in the seats so everyone can be helped and educated on proper use\n\nThis event is currently scheduled rain or shine. In the event of severe inclement weather\, the event will be postponed to a later date. \nMORE INFORMATION\nIn the event there is a large number of vehicles waiting for the check-up\, Henrico Police does offer Child Safety Seat Check-Ups by appointment. An online form can be filled out and one of our Child Passenger Safety Technicians will work to schedule an appointment with you. \nIf you have further questions about this event\, you can email police@henrico.gov. \nLearn more about finding the right car seat or booster seat for your child.

SUMMARY:Fall 2026 Rabies Clinic
DESCRIPTION:The Henrico County Police Animal Protection Unit will hold its Fall Rabies Clinic on Oct. 17\, 2026 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Western Henrico Government Center (4301 E. Parham Road). \nRabies vaccinations are $20 each\, cash only! Cats must be in carriers. Pets from all localities are welcome. \nRegistration and payment are done first inside the Administration building in the Cashier’s Office. You will then proceed to veterinarian on the first level of the parking deck adjacent to the Administration Building. \nHenrico County dog licenses will also be available. The lifetime license fee is $10. The license is for the life of the dog and is valid as long as the dog’s owner resides in the County and the dog’s rabies vaccination is kept current. The license is void if the dog does not receive a rabies vaccination within 30 days of the expiration of the dog’s current rabies vaccination. \nContact the Henrico Police Animal Shelter at 804-727-8801 (open Monday-Saturday\, 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.) with any further questions.
