Laburnum Ave) and Frank J. Thornton YMCA Aquatic Center. \nThis is an opportunity to learn about the resources available in Henrico County and tips for water safety\, whether in a pool\, lake or river. \nIn 2025\, Henrico County experienced several drownings of children. Public safety personnel came together to create the “Splash Smart Henrico!” initiative which is focused on educating our community members about water safety and the resources available in the area. \nWHAT TO EXPECT\n\nSwim safety resources/vendors in Henrico County;\nCPR demonstrations (11 a.m.\, 11:30 a.m.\, 12 p.m.\, 12:30 p.m.)\nLife jacket fittings for children;\nChild safety seat inspections;\nSafety Around Water Stations (12 p.m.) provided by the YMCA of Greater Richmond at the Frank J. Thornton Aquatic Center\nPrize giveaways\, food trucks\, splash pad & family fun!\n\nWHAT TO BRING\nChildren are encouraged to wear their swimsuits in order to take part in the “Safety Around Water” demonstration and for use of the splash pad. \nThis event is rain or shine. The Proclamation went into effect in 1863\, but this news was purposefully withheld from enslaved people until the arrival of Union troops in Galveston Bay\, Texas on June 19\, 1865. Juneteenth marks our country’s second independence day. First flown in 2000\, the Juneteenth flag was designed by Ben Haith\, founder of the National Juneteenth Celebration. DESCRIPTION:Henrico is celebrating Bike Month! \nFrom 5:00-7:00 p.m.\, join us for a HenBIKEo Safety Workshop:\n\n\nOn The Pier at Libbie Mill\, learn about road use safety and Henrico County’s infrastructure improvements from Public Works and Recreation and Parks with giveaways\, a Safety Pledge\, and crafts.\nIn the Libbie Mill Library parking lot\, kids can develop their cycling skills with the Bike Police.\n\n\nAfter the workshop\, Blue Ridge Cyclery invites cyclists of all ages and abilities on a ride with Public Works. Starting from and ending at the Pier\, this supported group ride will have 1.5-mile and 7.5-mile options with five stops. Representatives from Public Works and Bike Walk RVA will present on upcoming bike lanes and trails.\n\nView the route (The 1.5-mile option turns around after the Bethlehem Road presentation.)\n\nThe ride will depart promptly at 7:00 p.m. with the 7.5-mile riders returning by 8:00 p.m.. Helmets and front and rear bike lights are required by law.\n\nCan’t make it?
