Project Description

In the period from 2017-2025, the intersection of S. Laburnum Avenue and Gay Avenue had 211 total crashes, including 3 serious injury crashes. Rear-end and angle crashes were the most common crash types. There were 4 vulnerable road user-related crashes, including pedestrian and bicycle crashes. The location averages about 23 crashes per year.

The County of Henrico will be constructing accommodations to improve intersection safety and increase pedestrian access and connectivity. The following improvements will be constructed, including:

  • Converting the intersection at S. Laburnum Avenue and Gay Avenue to a thru-cut by eliminating through movements on Gay Ave.
  • Installing pedestrian crossings along the north, east, and south legs as well as 330 feet of sidewalk on the southwest corner along Laburnum Avenue.
  • The dual left-turn lanes onto East-bound Laburnum Avenue will be extended approximately 200 feet.
