PERMANENT SUPPORTIVE HOUSING (PSH)
Our mission of the Permanent Supportive Housing program is rooted in the commitment to providing supportive housing opportunities for adults with serious mental illness (SMI) by promoting wellness, preventing and ending experiences of homelessness, avoiding unnecessary hospital admissions, and facilitating safe and successful discharges from institutional facilities. PSH also seeks to strengthen the community’s behavioral health system in partnership with hospitals; law enforcement; affordable housing providers; community health centers; community services boards; public and non-profit housing and behavioral health care providers; and individuals receiving services.
PSH provides long-term housing stability, which is crucial for individuals who have experienced homelessness. This stability allows residents to focus on other aspects of their lives. Participants have access to other departments and services that we offer such as case management, mental health services, and substance abuse treatment, which can address underlying issues contributing to homelessness. PSH recognizes that stable housing can lead to better physical and mental health. When an individual has a safe place to live, they are more likely to seek medical care and maintain healthier lives.
Permanent Supportive Housing is a major component of addressing homelessness and enhancing the well-being of individuals in need. The program can be tailored to meet the needs of the participant, ensuring that the support provided is relevant and effective. This practice can reduce the likelihood of recidivism.
