Why is the Census important for Henrico County?
The U.S. Census aims to count each and every resident in the nation, including right here in Henrico County. The collected data helps to determine things like the number of seats Virginia has in the House of Representatives, and how to distribute $675 billion in federal funds to local communities like ours. Henrico will also be using the Census data, once it’s reported, to adjust magisterial district boundaries.
Every person counted equates to approximately $2,000/per year in federal funds. Every 500 people represents $1 million/year in funding for Henrico’s:
- schools,
- hospitals,
- roads, and
- other vital programs.
