Voluntary water conservation to end Nov. 9

With recent rainfall increasing water levels in the James River, Henrico County is joining the city of Richmond and Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover and Powhatan counties to lift voluntary water conservation measures, effective immediately.

Henrico encourages its customers to continue to use water wisely. Conservation tips are available from the Virginia Department of Health.

Henrico and other localities had implemented voluntary conservation measures on Oct. 10, when levels in the James River had dropped at the Westham gauge to a depth of 3 ½ to 3 ¾ feet, or 1,200 cubic feet per second (CFS). The region tracks river-flow levels on a 14-day rolling average.

In accordance with Richmond’s James River Regional Flow Management Plan, voluntary conservation measures are lifted when the rolling average remains above 1,200 CFS for 14 days.

Henrico residents with questions can contact the county’s Department of Public Utilities at 501-4275.
