The Henrico Circuit Court is the 14th Judicial Circuit Court in Virginia and is the trial court of general jurisdiction. The Henrico Circuit Court is composed of five full time judges.
Jurisdiction
The Circuit Court has authority to try a full range of cases, both civil and criminal, jury and non-jury. Civil cases include a wide variety of business disputes, personal injury, and domestic relations cases. The Henrico Circuit Court is organized into three divisions: Criminal, Civil, and Equity. Jury Duty
No officer of the Court will call to advise that you failed to report for jury duty or ask for your personal information in the form of date of birth, social security number, or credit card information. You will not receive emails summonsing you to report for jury duty. If you have any questions regarding jury service, call the Jury Officer at (804) 501-4812.
Recovery Court
The Henrico County Recovery Court is designed to reduce crime and increase the likelihood of successful rehabilitation of its participants after violation of probation.
Court Organization
The Criminal division of the Circuit Court has original jurisdiction of all felony cases. In addition, the Circuit Court hears appeals of misdemeanor cases tried in the General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court. The Civil division has exclusive original jurisdiction for all claims seeking $25,000 and above. The Civil division also hears claims for writs, garnishments, and other disputes over money damages. The Equity division has original jurisdiction over all divorces. In addition it hears claims for equitable remedies (or those claims seeking judgment for something other than money) including injunctions, partition suits and adoptions. The Circuit Court also hears appeals of family law cases tried in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court (mainly support, custody and visitation issues).
