The Real Property Division in the Department of Public Works is comprised of two service units: Land Acquisition and Asset Management. Both services provide professional real estate exchange guidance and support for all County departments and the Henrico County Public Schools Board.

The Land Acquisition unit is responsible for all acquisitions of land for new County roads where easements need to be established to include newly established rights of way. Land Acquisition also plays a strategic and significant role in developing and acquiring land rights for the Department of Public Utilities.

The Asset Management unit’s primary responsibility is to protect and care for the many County-owned facilities. This is all inclusive of agricultural, commercial, industrial, residential, and open spaces where leases are enforced. Disposition of properties is a major service where this unit performs readiness for demolition and clearing. This unit also provides consultation and advice to the public on requests for vacations, abandonments of roadways, alleyways, and existing easements along with the sale of any lands identified as surplus or uneconomic remnants.
