Virtual All Henrico Reads to present author Robin Sloan, ‘Sourdough’ April 1

Event promotes literacy, community by featuring prominent authors, works

New York Times-bestselling author Robin Sloan will discuss his novel “Sourdough” at the first virtual All Henrico Reads at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 1.

Held each spring, All Henrico Reads promotes literacy and community by featuring the work of a prominent author. The free event is presented by Henrico County Public Library, Henrico County Public Schools and the Friends of Henrico County Public Library. To participate via WebEx and for more information, go to henricolibrary.org/ahr.

Set in San Francisco, “Sourdough” follows Lois, a computer programmer who is thrust into a delightful and complex foodie culture after being gifted a sourdough starter. The novel inspires questions about food, what makes life fulfilling and the role of technology in our lives. “Sourdough” is a “beautiful, small, sweet, quiet book,” according to National Public Radio (NPR), and was named one of the Best Books of 2017 by Southern Living, NPR and the San Francisco Chronicle.

As part of All Henrico Reads, Sloan will discuss his work and will answer questions submitted in advance. Questions may be forwarded to Henrico County Public Library via Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. Those who submit a question will have a chance to win a prize.

Sloan is a New York Times-bestselling author of two novels, “Mr. Penumbra’s 24-hour Bookstore” and “Sourdough.” He also has written short stories, a novella and fiction and nonfiction pieces appearing in such publications as the New York Times and The Atlantic. In 2020, he published a serial called “The Strange Case of the New Golden Gate” in both the East Bay Times and Mercury News.

A programming enthusiast and former Twitter employee, Sloan has been a full-time fiction writer since 2012 and currently produces small-batch extra virgin olive oil in California. He can be found online at robinsloan.com.
