Henrico continues to monitor operations at Richmond water treatment plant

Henrico County is continuing to monitor operations at the city of Richmond’s water treatment plant.

The city’s water distribution network, which provides service to areas including eastern Henrico, is operating with three main finish water pumps and two auxiliary pumps, after a finish water pump failed overnight. The pumps are producing 68 million gallons per day – an amount greater than the network’s average consumption for this time of year, according to the city. In addition to some of Henrico, Richmond’s network also serves the city and part of Hanover County.

Henrico has been able to fill its system of water tanks in eastern Henrico, which are used to help stabilize water pressure to area customers. Henrico’s water continues to be clean and safe for consumption.

Some customers have reported cloudy water from their faucets. Public Utilities advises that cloudiness is common, especially in hot water, after increased pressure creates air bubbles in the lines. Residents should notice their water clear gradually as Public Utilities continues to flush lines. Residents with questions about their water are encouraged to call (804) 727-8700 during normal business hours.
