Henrico County residents impacted by the water outage should start seeing their water flow slowly return Thursday.
Henrico is currently receiving water from the City of Richmond into Henrico’s Greater Eubank (GE) water pressure zone at a flow rate of about 6 million gallons per day. Crews are monitoring the flow rate closely and manually ensuring that the water comes at a slower rate than normal. For this process, residents may notice fire hydrants open in the eastern part of the county to release pressure and air trapped in the lines. This step is to ensure that the systems do not break under the building pressure and to help maintain water quality as it returns. As this process continues, Henrico’s Department of Public Utilities expects pressure to increase and water flows to return to the eastern portion of the county.
The Laburnum/Azalea (LA) water pressure zone experience increased pressure as its zone fills from Henrico’s Greater Hermitage (GH) zone water supply, which comes directly from the Henrico County Water Treatment Facility. Crews are manually increasing pressure slowly in this zone to avoid damage to the water system.
As a reminder, all Henrico residents are under a boil water advisory until further notice. As the impacted customers begin to see their water pressure increase, they are advised to boil any water intended for consumption or cooking before use. It is safe to use the water for showering or bathing, however, residents should take care to ensure no water enters their mouths.
