Three Chopt Road Improvements

Henrico County has identified a 2.1 mile section of Three Chopt Road, between Barrington Hills Drive and a point approximately 1,000 feet east of Gaskins Road that will be widened to a four-lane divided roadway.  Additional corridor improvements include curb and gutter, drainage improvements, pedestrian accommodations (sidewalks), and improvements at the intersection of Three Chopt Road and Gaskins Road.

Estimated Schedule

  • Design is underway.
  • Right-of-way acquisition is complete.
  • Utility relocation is underway.
  • Advertisement for construction anticipated in late 2026 contingent upon securing environmental approvals.
  • Construction anticipated to begin in 2027.

Progress to Date

  • As of October 2025, the County is  working with VDOT to assess and determine NEPA re-evaluation needed, renewing environmental permits with the USACOE (United States Corp of Engineers), revising plans to meet updated standards (stormwater, etc.), and coordinating the relocation of Richmond Gas, Dominion Energy, Comcast, and Verizon utilities in conflict with the road alignment.
