My Henrico Academy

My Henrico Academy (MHA) is a free program that engages multicultural communities with interactive lessons and culturally specific approaches to bridge participant’s understanding of how their local government and communities work together. Individuals who thrive in MHA seek information to share with other immigrants; attend program sessions with officials and leaders to learn how they can become more engaged in the civic process; and participate in activities to experience county programs, locations and services.

In addition to gaining a better understanding of how local government works, you will:

  • Obtain the skills necessary to navigate the governmental and the social and human services systems independently, effectively, and efficiently;
  • Learn how to resolve issues and obtain information; and
  • Expand your network and become prepared to pursue leadership opportunities within the community.

Henrico celebrated the My Henrico Academy Class of 2023 with a ceremony held Nov. 1 at the Henrico Theatre. The group met monthly beginning in May at locations throughout the county to interact with officials, tour facilities and learn about services available to the community. “We have been able to see how our culture, experience and stories are so different from each other, but we have also seen how much we are all the same,” said Sarah Bice, a graduate of My Henrico Academy. “Thank you so much, again, for the wonderful program My Henrico Academy.” My Henrico Academy (MHA) is a free program that engages multicultural communities with interactive lessons and culturally specific approaches to bridge the understanding of how the county’s government and its communities work together.
