Henrico to make showers at 3 schools available to residents

In coordination with Henrico County Public Schools, Henrico County is making showers available at three public schools to support the needs of residents during the water service outage that is impacting communities in central and eastern Henrico.

Brookland Middle School, 9200 Lydell Dr.; J.R. Tucker High School, 2910 N. Parham Road; and Wilder Middle School, 6900 Wilkinson Road, will be open to residents, beginning Thursday, Jan. 9. The schools’ showers and bathroom facilities will be available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily until further notice. Residents should bring their own toiletries, including towels, washcloths, soap and shampoo.

In addition, showers are available to residents 24 hours a day at the Henrico Sports & Events Center, 1 All Star Boulevard.

While bottled water will be available at the three schools and the Sports & Events Center, supplies are limited. If possible, residents who need water are strongly encouraged to use tanker trucks stationed at the Eastern Government Center, 3820 Nine Mile Road, and the Eastern Henrico Recreation Center, 1440 N. Laburnum Ave. Water from the trucks is available 24 hours a day. Residents must bring their own containers.

Earlier today, Henrico issued a precautionary countywide boil water advisory. Residents, businesses and other users are advised to boil their tap water before consuming it or using it in food preparation. Under the guidance of the Virginia Department of Health, tap water can be used safely for hand washing and bathing without first boiling it. Bathers should avoid getting water in their mouths or swallowing it. Additional precautions should be taken for those with open wounds.
