Newly reopened Three Lakes Park Nature Center invites community to learn about native wildlife

County officials and representatives from Henrico County Recreation and Parks gathered for a ribbon cutting to celebrate the long-awaited reopening of the nature center. The facility updates include new and enhanced interactive play features, an outdoor education space, accessibility improvements and living exhibits for snakes, frogs, spiders, an eel and other wildlife.

Board of Supervisors Vice Chair and Fairfield District Supervisor Roscoe D. Cooper, county leadership and representatives from its Division of Recreation and Parks invited the community to celebrate the long-awaited reopening of the Three Lakes Park Nature Center. 

Following the ceremony, a community event with a bounce house, music and food continued into the afternoon. Attendees were able to speak with environmental group partners, including the Box Turtle Sanctuary of Central Virginia, Keep Henrico Beautiful, Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, Pelikan Print Co., Henrico’s Environmental Action Resource Team, Virginia Herpetological Society and Fresh Water Turtles of Virginia.

A 'generational project,' Fall Line trail's northern section opens with connection at Woodman Road

Local officials from across the region and other trail boosters gathered Sept. 24 along the paved pathway in Ashland for a ribbon-cutting and ceremonial first ride. From the Ashland Trail Line Trail, the new portion cuts through Hanover County and into Henrico with a crossing of the scenic Chickahominy River.

Ultimately, the Fall Line is planned to extend 43 miles and cross through seven jurisdictions between Ashland and the city of Petersburg. Henrico opened its first portion of the trail – the 1,400-foot Park Street section in Lakeside – in July 2024.

Henrico announces park plans in Tuckahoe District

Applause filled the air as Tuckahoe District Supervisor Jody K. Rogish announced Henrico County’s plans to create a neighborhood park on a wooded 6-acre property along Patterson Avenue by Maybeury Elementary School and the Tuckahoe Family YMCA.

"It's going to be a small pocket park," Rogish said during an Aug. 4 community celebration at Maybeury.

Tuckahoe Creek Park expansion planned on newly donated land

The next phase of Tuckahoe Creek Park is getting ready to move forward, thanks in large part to a local community partner.

The Wilton Companies, a local business with deep roots in Tuckahoe, is donating roughly 21 acres of land just north of Patterson Avenue to expand the park. This property connects to the existing Tuckahoe Creek Park and will allow visitors to enjoy more of the natural beauty of the creek.
