Fire Training

1005Henrico Fire Training Academy

The Henrico Fire Training academy is split into two facilities. The first facility consists of a number of classrooms at the Public Safety Building. These classrooms are designed for lectures for both fire and EMS. There is also a separate room setup for EMS skills training. These rooms are also used by HCCERT members, Citizens Academy and Explorer post 651.

The second facility consists of our “Drill School”. The Drill School consists of a two bay (mock) fire station with a classroom, kitchen, bathrooms and outdoor pavilion. It also has a 7-story high-rise tower, 2 burn buildings, extrication and car fire section and a FEMA approved Technical Rescue Center.

Henrico Fire Paramedic Academy

In October 2019, Henrico County Division of Fire applied for a Letter of Review through the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP) to become an accredited educational facility which would allow the Division to conduct an internal paramedic academy.

Graduates of this program would be eligible to test for National Paramedic certification. Students may submit a copy of their certification card to the J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College System and may be awarded credits that may be applied to an Associate of Applied Science degree.

The goal of the Henrico Fire Paramedic Academy is to prepare competent, entry-level paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains with or without exit points at the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, and/or Emergency Medical Technician, and/or Emergency Medical Responder levels.
