Douglas Clevert
Douglas W. Clevert Jr. was appointed to serve as chief of the Henrico County Division of Fire, June 13, 2026. Doug Clevert began his fire-service career in 2005 and joined Henrico Fire in 2020. As fire chief, he oversees an agency responsible for fire prevention and suppression, emergency medical services, technical rescue, hazardous materials mitigation and disaster preparedness in Henrico. The division has an approved budget of $102.5 million and 677 employees in fiscal year 2025-26. It responds to more than 60,000 calls for service each year and operates 23 firehouses. Henrico holds the highest-possible Class 1 rating from the Insurance Services Office, which is based on a comprehensive review of the county’s fire response, including its fire department capabilities and training.
Chief Clevert previously served as Deputy Chief of Operations and Training, Deputy Chief Clevert was responsible for daily field operations, as overseen by three shift Assistant Chiefs, and Professional Development and Training. He also previous served as the Assistant Chief of Training and Professional Development, as well as Assistant Chief of B-Shift. He’s also served in key roles for both Henrico Incident Management team, the Central Virginia All-Hazards Management team and is a CFAI Peer Assessor for the Center for Public Safety Excellence. He is a certified Fire Officer IV.
Clevert grew up in Henrico and graduated from Godwin High School. Chief Clevert has an Associates of Applied Science in Fire Science Technology from Reynolds Community College and is a two-time graduate of Liberty University, with a Bachelor’s in Fire Administration and a Master’s in Executive Leadership. He’s an alumnus of Carl Holmes Executive Development Institute, the IAFC Fire Service Executive Development Institute, and the National Fire Academy Training Program Management Program and Community Risk Reduction Program.
