Board of Supervisors meeting recap: Glen Allen teams honored, reservoir earns distinction from Mid-Atlantic Chapter of APWA

The Glen Allen High School Jaguars’ girls cross country and boys volleyball teams won Virginia High School League Class 5 championships in November.

The Virgil R. Hazelett Reservoir at Cobbs Creek was named the 2026 Project of the Year by the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the American Public Works Association. The reservoir received the award in the category of environment projects of more than $75 million.

Henrico boosts access to free naloxone to reduce opioid overdose deaths

The pilot project is being funded by allocations made to the county from opioid litigation settlements. Henrico received $17,986 from the Virginia Opioid Abatement Authority and contributed an additional $5,000 in settlement funds made directly to the county.

   

Individuals are encouraged to take a box of naloxone if they or someone they know is at risk of an opioid overdose. Each box has two doses of naloxone. Individuals are asked to take only one box per visit, as supplies are limited.

The Board of Supervisors held a regular meeting Tuesday, Feb. 10. Walk for Peace attracts thousands across Henrico, ‘comes at a critical time’ for communities, nation

Bhikkhu Pannakara, spiritual leader of the Walk for Peace, spoke to county officials and other supporters during a lunchtime stop. He emphasized the importance of being happy with what you have, of practicing mindfulness, of avoiding the distraction of cellphones and other devices, and of adopting peacefulness as a mindset.

“We are mindful on each and every step we make,” he said. “I focus on my breathing when I walk, it's not just a walk, but walk with practicing mindfulness.”

Henrico temporarily waives drop-off fees at public-use areas as crews work to resume normal trash collection

Residents may drop off their household waste at the Springfield Road Public Use Area, 10600 Fords Country Lane, and the Charles City Road Public Use Area, 2075 Charles City Road. The normal fee of $3 per vehicle per trip will be waived through Sunday, Feb. 22.
