In the first half of 2021, Henrico has seen a 15% decrease across the total number of Part I Offenses compared to the county’s five-year average, and just under a 5% decrease from 2020.
The decrease in county-wide Part I Offenses in 2021 is attributed primarily to a decrease in burglaries (59%) and rapes (33%) compared to the 5-year average.
Sadly, in 2021 there has been an increase in aggravated assaults (28%) and a significant increase in homicides (94%) compared to the 5-year average.
“The reduction of crime and safety of the public remains the top priority of Henrico Police. We’re going to continue to engage and work with our community members and business owners to put a stop to the rise of violent crime in Henrico,” said Chief Eric English.
Why we compare crime to a 5-year average. Crime naturally fluctuates year-to-year; while identifying significant spikes in crime over a short period of time is important, it is equally important to identify crime trends over a long period of time. Using this information, we can address crime much more efficiently and effectively.
