A dinner out suddenly turned into a life-saving mission for an off-duty Henrico County firefighter. Lt. LeeRoye Moore was enjoying his meal at a restaurant near Richmond International Airport when he spotted a man in distress at a nearby table.

“He wasn’t breathing and didn’t have a pulse,” Moore said.

The firefighter quickly lowered the unconscious man to the floor and began performing CPR. Moore continued to apply chest compressions until emergency crews arrived and were able to get the man’s heart beating again. Even though he wasn’t on the clock, Moore said he was just doing his job.

“That’s what we’re trained to do — to make a quick assessment, determine what’s going on and go to work,” he said.
