WHAT IS THE STUDY AREA?

The Lakeside Land Use Study Area consists primarily of the Lakeside Avenue core business district from Bryan Park to Hilliard Road, and extending north to include Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden and the Lakeside Park Club.

WHAT MEETINGS HAVE BEEN HELD?

From August 25th – 28th a public design charrette was hosted at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden where Lakeside residents and other stakeholders collaborated with the project team to begin formulating ideas. A charrette kickoff meeting took place the evening of Monday, August 25th with nearly 200 attendees. This meeting included an explanation of the charrette process, an overview of some of the topics to be explored, and an extensive Q&A period.

A mid-week update was presented to approximately 90 individuals at midday on Wednesday, August 27th to show some of the on-site research and in-process design work assembled to date. This was followed by a second round of open Q&A.

The week culminated in a wrap-up event on Thursday evening, August 28th attended by over 125 people, during which various land use ideas and streetscape designs were presented as preliminary draft options for community consideration and discussion.

The charrette process is intended to be a first-impression sketch, therefore, the images and descriptions presented in the August 28th wrap-up presentation are just that – initial ideas for illustrative purposes, not a fully-formed and finalized land use plan.
