Public Safety Cadets Program

Henrico Police is proud to partner with the Public Safety Cadet Program, a new, national non-profit organization founded and managed by active and retired law enforcement officers and business leaders dedicated to preparing young adults, ages 14 up to the age of 20 (until 21st birthday), for careers and leadership in the public safety profession.
What do Public Safety Cadets do?
Public Safety Cadet will benefit from a variety of activities, including:
- Participating in local and out-of-state training conferences and field trips
- Participating in the Police Ride-Along Program.
- Assisting with law enforcement and public-safety-related activities such as traffic direction, parades, community events, crime prevention programs, and child fingerprinting

Qualifications for membership in the Public Safety Cadets- Unit 608 shall be:
- You must live in Henrico County or a bordering county near Henrico that does not offer a Public Safety Cadet program or equivalent. Some exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis.
- Young adults ages 14 through 20 years of age. Cadets will age out of the PSC program on achieving their 21st birthday.
- Successful completion of a thorough background review to assess character and integrity that may include interviews with neighbors, teachers, and employers.
- The applicant must not have any major behavioral issues.
- The applicant must be able to handle stressful situations.
- Must not have a prior conviction for a significant criminal offense or serious traffic offense, as defined by the respective agency/organization.
- Must demonstrate and maintain a minimum of a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) if enrolled in school or an educational program to remain in the Unit.
- As a prerequisite for joining a PSC Unit, the Agreement and Legal Waiver Form must be executed by the parents, legal guardian, and/or the Cadet if the Cadet is of legal age to execute such a document. A copy must be provided to PSC with initial registration.
- Must complete orientation training, including Youth Safety and Protection Training Course for Cadets and a probationary period.
- Must attest that they have been medically cleared to participate in these (Law Enforcement) activities with or without accommodations, as determined by Henrico County Police Division.
