My Henrico Academy accepting applications for spring program

Free leadership program promotes engagement between county, multicultural communities

Residents who reflect the area’s rich cultural diversity are encouraged to apply to participate in My Henrico Academy, a leadership program that strengthens connections between Henrico County and its multicultural communities while encouraging civic participation and empowerment.

Now entering its sixth year, the free program offers up to 20 immigrant and descendant participants an opportunity to meet with county officials, tour facilities and deepen their understanding of local programs, services and resources. My Henrico Academy is designed to highlight how Henrico’s government and residents work together to build a stronger, more vibrant community. The program is open to residents from all localities. Applications will be accepted through Friday, Feb. 27.

Scheduled to begin April 9, My Henrico Academy will include seven sessions held from 3:45 to 7:30 p.m. on selected Thursdays at locations throughout the county. Participants will enjoy dinner, tour facilities and engage with officials and staff to learn about county operations and services, including job opportunities with the county and educational and community resources.

Since its inception in 2019, more than 100 residents have graduated from My Henrico Academy, creating a network of community ambassadors who are equipped to bridge communities and transcend cultural boundaries and experiences.
