Review Procedures

To obtain a review on a DPW plan, follow these general steps outlined below.

  • All plans must be submitted via the Build Henrico website.  In some cases, plans may be submitted as a “Direct to DPW Submittal”.  Please verify with the Review Engineer that this is the correct submittal type before completing your submittal.
  • The DPW Assurance Control group reviews plans using our standard comment checklist found here.  All plan resubmittals addressing these comments must include information indicating how and where each comment was addressed.  In addition, the changes that address these comments must be clearly indicated (bubbles, etc.) in the plan set.  The bubbles may be removed for the signature set submittal.
  • The following documentation, where applicable, must be submitted prior to plan approval: (these documents can be found on the Infrastructure Standards and Guidelines page)
    • Environmental Compliance Agreement and bond
    • Stormwater Facility Maintenance Agreements
    • Registration Statement for Virginia Construction General Permit and associated fees. (The Department of Public Works cannot enter the Registration Statement data into DEQ’s online permitting system until the Review Engineer has signed the plans.  Because the DPW signatures cannot be completed until DEQ has issued the GCP, this may cause delays in the approval process.)
  • A pre-construction meeting at the project site is required for all projects with land disturbance exceeding 2,500 square feet.  To schedule this meeting, please contact an inspector.  At the conclusion of this meeting, the approved plans will be distributed, authorizing construction to begin.
