Varina District Supervisor Tyrone E. Nelson will host a Varina Community Meeting on Thursday, June 26 for a discussion of Title V air permits with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. The permits are designed to improve compliance with the federal Clean Air Act by clarifying what source facilities must do to control air pollution, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. at Varina Area Library, 1875 New Market Road. Residents may participate in person or virtually via Webex. To participate by phone, dial 1-415-655-0002 and enter the access code 2305 442 6411 and, if prompted, the passcode 56584236.

As planned, the Department of Public Utilities disconnected from the city’s system shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday to allow the city repairs to occur during overnight hours when system use is low. Throughout the night, customers in areas of eastern Henrico were served with water from the county’s reserve tanks. Richmond announced today that crews will begin to repair the water main at Seventh and Canal streets at 10 p.m. Sunday. The work is expected to be completed in the early morning hours of Monday. Previously, the repairs were expected to start late Monday. The work is timed to occur when water use is low across the system. A station that receives water from the city and serves areas of eastern Henrico will temporarily be offline. Henrico’s Department of Public Utilities is evaluating the impact of a large water main break in the city of Richmond on water service in Henrico.
The break, located just across the county line near the primary water connection pump between the two localities, is pulling water pressure from the areas served from this connection pump. Central and eastern Henrico residents are likely to experience low water pressure, though residents have reported low pressure countywide. Henrico closed valves to temporarily disconnect from the city’s distribution system at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. That occurred after city officials reported just before 12:30 a.m. that a majority of the city’s filters had been clogged by excessive sediment in the James River. At the city’s request, Henrico reduced the amount of water that it was drawing from the city’s system.

While Richmond has issued a boil water advisory for some of its customers, Henrico is not under a boil water advisory at this time. Henrico’s water remains safe for consumption and use. As of 7:30 a.m., the county’s Department of Public Utilities had closed valves at connections to the city’s system, which serves portions of central and eastern Henrico. Henrico’s water tanks, which had been kept at capacity, are supplying customers who typically are served by the city. Water pressure remains normal countywide.
