Varina community meeting to include discussion of Title V air permits with Department of Environmental Quality

Varina District Supervisor Tyrone E. Nelson will host a Varina Community Meeting on Thursday, June 26 for a discussion of Title V air permits with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. The permits are designed to improve compliance with the federal Clean Air Act by clarifying what source facilities must do to control air pollution, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. at Varina Area Library, 1875 New Market Road. Residents may participate in person or virtually via Webex. To participate by phone, dial 1-415-655-0002 and enter the access code 2305 442 6411 and, if prompted, the passcode 56584236. Residents are encouraged to submit questions in advance to [email protected] or share them during the meeting through Webex’s chat feature. By summer 2026, Henrico County will be home to a 60-bed recovery center where individuals struggling with addiction can be guided safely through their withdrawal symptoms and receive short-term, stabilizing treatment for substance-use disorder.

Henrico to reconnect to city’s system as water main repairs pause for the day

As planned, the Department of Public Utilities disconnected from the city’s system shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday to allow the city repairs to occur during overnight hours when system use is low. Throughout the night, customers in areas of eastern Henrico were served with water from the county’s reserve tanks. Public Utilities will follow the same process late tonight, allowing city crews to resume work to repair the water main that broke Thursday evening. ‘We’ll be ready’; Henrico welcomes Richmond’s faster timeline for water main repairs

Richmond announced today that crews will begin to repair the water main at Seventh and Canal streets at 10 p.m. Sunday. The work is expected to be completed in the early morning hours of Monday. Previously, the repairs were expected to start late Monday. The work is timed to occur when water use is low across the system. A station that receives water from the city and serves areas of eastern Henrico will temporarily be offline. Henrico water pressure continues to stabilize as Richmond flows strengthen

Henrico County customers should be seeing consistent water pressure, although it may remain slightly lower than normal, as water flows from Richmond have strengthened and the city prepares to fix a broken water main that occurred Thursday on Canal Street in downtown. Residents are encouraged to call the Henrico Department of Public Utilities at 804-501-5025 (weekends/after hours) if they notice any unusual water conditions. Henrico’s water remains safe, stable following Richmond water main break

Henrico customers may experience lower-than-normal water pressure as crews work to address the impacts of a water main break on Canal Street. Customers are encouraged to limit water use when possible. Henrico has opened a drive-thru water distribution site at Best Plaza, 1400 Best Plaza Drive. A distribution site at Harvie Elementary School, 3401 Harvie Road, will open Saturday. Henrico activates Emergency Operations Center for water concerns; water main break in city causing low pressure countywide

Henrico’s Department of Public Utilities is evaluating the impact of a large water main break in the city of Richmond on water service in Henrico. The break, located just across the county line near the primary water connection pump between the two localities, is pulling water pressure from the areas served from this connection pump. Central and eastern Henrico residents are likely to experience low water pressure, though residents have reported low pressure countywide. Henrico replenishes east end water reserves overnight as Richmond continues to ramp up production

“By successfully routing water from our Water Treatment Facility in western Henrico to our system of six tanks in the east end, we’ve ensured that these reserves are fully restored and able to meet the needs of our residents and other customers, as needed, for at least 24 to 48 hours,” said Bentley Chan, director of the Henrico Department of Public Utilities. Henrico’s water system remains stable

Henrico closed valves to temporarily disconnect from the city’s distribution system at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. That occurred after city officials reported just before 12:30 a.m. that a majority of the city’s filters had been clogged by excessive sediment in the James River. At the city’s request, Henrico reduced the amount of water that it was drawing from the city’s system. Water pressure is normal throughout Henrico’s system. Henrico temporarily disconnects from city water system following production issues overnight at Richmond’s treatment plant

While Richmond has issued a boil water advisory for some of its customers, Henrico is not under a boil water advisory at this time. Henrico’s water remains safe for consumption and use. As of 7:30 a.m., the county’s Department of Public Utilities had closed valves at connections to the city’s system, which serves portions of central and eastern Henrico. Henrico’s water tanks, which had been kept at capacity, are supplying customers who typically are served by the city. Water pressure remains normal countywide. Henrico releases ‘request for interest’ for arena-anchored mixed-use development at Best Products Reimagined site

The Henrico Economic Development Authority issued a “request for interest” (RFI) solicitation for a mixed-use development on property that once served as headquarters for the retail chain Best Products, along interstates 95 and 295 and East Parham Road. Master developers, arena operators and other prospective partners will have until Monday, July 28, to respond formally with submissions of a “statement of interest” in the development. Henrico Sports & Events Center to Remain Home of Prestigious A-10 Women’s Basketball Championship

The Henrico Sports & Events Center has hosted the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Basketball Championship since 2024. The marquee event, which is held in early March, had been planned to remain in Henrico through 2026. With the A-10's announcement, the tournament will extend its stay in Henrico through 2029. Vallarie Reilly is the first resident to receive solar panels through Solar Access Henrico, a new program offered by the county in partnership with Dominion Energy Solutions. The program provides eligible homeowners with access more sustainable technologies while saving money on utility bills and reducing the community’s environmental impact.

Statement from Henrico County on Richmond’s water plant operations

County officials learned from state agencies late Sunday that unknown amounts of additional fluoride were introduced to the city’s drinking water last Wednesday. Henrico is working with state agencies, the city and other localities to more fully understand what occurred and how water customers throughout the region may have been impacted.
