Customers should see no disruption of service during work overnight Sunday
Henrico County welcomes and will be prepared to accommodate the city of Richmond’s accelerated schedule to fix a broken water main beginning late Sunday and continuing into early Monday.
“We’ll be ready to go,” said Bentley Chan, director of the Department of Public Utilities. “Thanks to our residents limiting their use of public water, our reserve tanks are on target to be completely refilled later today. Because we’ll use these reserves while the city makes repairs, customers should see no disruption of water service while work is underway.”
Richmond announced today that crews will begin to repair the water main at Seventh and Canal streets at 10 p.m. Sunday. The work is expected to be completed in the early morning hours of Monday. Previously, the repairs were expected to start late Monday. The work is timed to occur when water use is low across the system. A station that receives water from the city and serves areas of eastern Henrico will temporarily be offline.
“We have communicated and worked closely with Mayor Danny Avula and his team ever since the water main break occurred Thursday evening,” Chan said. “We truly appreciate their partnership and tireless efforts to keep our water safe and to get our system back to normal as quickly as possible. We also want to thank our residents for their patience and for helping by conserving water. Their efforts have helped us be ready for the work to begin.”
Henrico customers should be seeing consistent water pressure, although it may remain slightly lower than normal, as water flows from Richmond have strengthened in recent days. Residents are asked to call Public Utilities at 804-501-5025 (weekends/after hours) if they notice any unusual water conditions.
To help limit the use of public water, Henrico has established drive-thru distribution sites at two locations. Residents can pick up bottled water – one case per car – at Best Plaza, 1400 Best Plaza Drive; and Harvie Elementary School, 3401 Harvie Road. Both sites will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily until further notice.
