City has notified Public Utilities that it’s able to serve county customers
Henrico is restoring its connection to Richmond’s water distribution system after receiving notice from the city that service to the county can resume.
The Department of Public Utilities initiated the reconnection at 11 a.m. The process typically takes several hours and is designed to ensure a gradual transition to normal operations. Water remains safe for consumption and use, and customers should see normal pressure.
“We are thrilled to get our customers back online and are grateful for the city’s continued partnership,” said Bentley Chan, director of Public Utilities. “We appreciate all the crews who’ve worked tirelessly in recent days and throughout the past two nights to address the city’s water main break. We also thank our customers for their patience and cooperation in limiting their use of public water in recent days. Their efforts were instrumental in allowing us to keep our water system pressurized, stable and safe.”
Public Utilities disconnected from the city’s system shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday and again Monday to allow city crews to work on repairing a water main at Seventh and Canal streets in downtown. The work was timed to occur during overnight hours, when system use is low. Impacted customers in eastern Henrico received water from the county’s reserve tanks.
To support residents’ needs, Henrico has operated drive-thru water distribution sites at Best Plaza, 1400 Best Plaza Drive; and Harvie Elementary School, 3401 Harvie Road. Both sites, which offer one case of bottled water per vehicle, are scheduled to cease operations effective 8 p.m. tonight.
While Henrico’s water is safe and pressure should be normal, residents are encouraged to call Public Utilities at 804-501-5025 (weekends/after hours) or 804-727-8700 (weekdays) if they notice any unusual conditions.
