Community Events
Ready, Set, Close! First-Time Buyer Event
Prospective homebuyers are invited to learn about Henrico County’s affordable housing opportunities at this free information fair. Attendees can learn about available and upcoming homes through the Henrico Affordable Housing Trust Fund, connect with participating home builders and ask questions about the homebuying process. The event is an open house, so attendees may arrive at any time.

Hawk Fest 2026
Saturday, September 26 | 11 a.m.–2 p.m.
Reynolds Community College—Parham Road Campus
1651 E. Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23228
Reynolds Community College, in partnership with Henrico County Recreation & Parks, invites the community to Hawk Fest 2026! This free, family-friendly celebration will feature live music, food trucks, inflatable amusements, games, face painting, balloon art and more.
Visitors can also explore the “Truck and Learn” Discovery Area, featuring hands-on experiences with community vehicles, and enjoy interactive showcases presented by Reynolds faculty and staff.
The event is free, open to the public and will be held rain or shine.

Child Safety Seat Check-Up Event
Henrico County Police, in partnership with the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, will host a free Child Safety Seat Check-Up Event as part of National Seat Check Saturday. Certified technicians will help parents and caregivers ensure child safety and booster seats are installed and used properly. Participants are encouraged to bring their car seats and manuals, children who use the seats and other caregivers who regularly transport them.

Every Voice Belongs: A Zola’s World Author Showcase
Celebrate stories, representation, accessibility and inclusion at this free family event featuring children’s author and Zola’s World founder Narita Snead. The showcase will highlight Zola Speaks Up and Zola and Myles Play Sports, with opportunities to meet the author, learn about the inspiration behind Zola’s World and purchase signed books. Hosted by Virginia Hands & Voices.

Community Harvest Festival
Bring the family to a free Community Harvest Festival featuring Trunk or Treat, a chili cook-off, games and activities, a fire truck visit, door prizes, a prayer tent and canned food drive. Everyone is welcome!

Operation Hours | Schedule
- The inclement weather (IWS) shelter operates from November 15 through April 15; this is NOT a year-round shelter.
- During the inclement weather season, the IWS is open from 5:00 PM-8:00 AM
- The IWS provides dinner and breakfast for shelter guests.
- Access to the shelter is on a first-come, first-served basis.
* Persisting conditions may extend hours.
