All public hearings of the Board of Zoning Appeals are held in Board Room of the County Administration Building, 4301 E. Parham Road, Henrico, VA 23228.
The members of the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) are appointed by the Circuit Court for five-year terms. The terms are staggered such that one member is appointed each year. The court traditionally appoints one member from each magisterial district, although there is no legal requirement to do so.
The BZA is a quasi-judicial body, meaning that it sits in place of the court to hear appeals from administrative decisions and requests for variances from the zoning ordinance. In addition, the Board of Supervisors has delegated to the BZA the authority to approve certain conditional uses and special exceptions.
Purpose: Review interpretations of the Zoning Ordinance, to determine zoning district boundary locations where there is doubt, to grant variances from zoning requirements, and to issue conditional use permits
Terms: 5
Meeting Dates: January-October, 4th Thursday; November and December, third Thursday
