Youth & Family Outpatient Substance Use Program

Henrico Area Mental Health and Developmental Services uses a Recovery Based Model in providing substance use education, individual, family, and group treatment.

We have therapists certified in Adolescent-Community Reinforcement Approach (A-CRA), an evidence-based substance use treatment model for adolescents, as well as evidence informed substance use treatment protocols that incorporate individual and family sessions. Treatment includes at least one parent and incorporates Motivational Interviewing strategies. This approach honors the stage of change that each youth may be in at the time of treatment. Along with their parents, adolescents learn about the signs of addiction and the impact various substances can have on their developing brain.
