Juneteenth Fb Event 01

Henrico County’s Juneteenth Celebration

Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Dorey Park
Join Henrico Recreation & Parks for a vendor fair, kids zone, food trucks, and entertainment. FREE and open to the public!
If you have any questions, please call (804) 652-1421 or email [email protected].

Juneteenth celebrates enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation reaching the westernmost Confederate state of Texas. The Proclamation went into effect in 1863, but this news was purposefully withheld from enslaved people until the arrival of Union troops in Galveston Bay, Texas on June 19, 1865. Juneteenth marks our country’s second independence day.

First flown in 2000, the Juneteenth flag was designed by Ben Haith, founder of the National Juneteenth Celebration.

Learn more about Juneteenth’s history and traditions.

*Event Notes*

  • Fireworks begin at 9:45pm
  • You must be IN the park prior to 9:30pm  to watch the fireworks (You’ll want to be there for the evening entertainment anyways!)

Once parked, guests will be walking to the event area along designated paths.

We recommend guests take 295. Directions:

  • Take Exit 22 (Varina)
  • Turn right onto Doran Road
  • Turn left onto Darbytown Road and follow the direction of Henrico Police
  • Turn left into Dorey Park

Once in the park, please stay on pedestrian pathways and avoid walking on roadways.

At the conclusion of the event, please plan extra time to leave Dorey Park. Although Henrico County Staff will be assisting with traffic, there will be a lot of vehicles on the property.

Accessibility & ASL Interpreters

Accessible parking spaces will be available to those with a disabled license plate or placard. Spots are limited, and we may be using a golf cart shuttle service to transport guests from reserved handicap parking to the event area. We are pleased to offer ASL interpretation at Juneteenth! Look for designated seating areas located near the stage.
