Splash Smart Henrico! | July Water Safety Event

Fun in the water starts with safety!
The Henrico County Police Division, Division of Fire, Outreach and Engagement, Recreation and Parks and YMCA of Greater Richmond are hosting a free water safety event on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Eastern Henrico Recreation Center (1440 N. Laburnum Ave) and Frank J. Thornton YMCA Aquatic Center.
This is an opportunity to learn about the resources available in Henrico County and tips for water safety, whether in a pool, lake or river.
In 2025, Henrico County experienced several drownings of children. Public safety personnel came together to create the “Splash Smart Henrico!” initiative which is focused educating our community members about water safety and the resources available in the area.
WHAT TO EXPECT
- Swim safety resources/vendors in Henrico County;
- CPR demonstrations (11 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12 p.m., 12:30 p.m.)
- Life jacket fittings for children;
- Safety Around Water Stations (12 p.m.) provided by the YMCA of Greater Richmond at the Frank J. Thornton Aquatic Center
- Prize giveaways, food trucks, splash pad & family fun!
WHAT TO BRING
Children are encouraged to wear their swimsuits in order to take part in the “Safety Around Water” demonstration and for use of the splash pad.
This event is rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be moved to the gym of the Eastern Henrico Recreation Center.
