Henrico seeks input on community development needs, program performance

The Henrico County Department of Community Revitalization will hold three public hearings in February to receive input on the county’s community development needs and the effectiveness of its programs.

Henrico will incorporate the feedback in the county’s Consolidated Plan for 2020-2025. The document will be submitted to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, pending approval by the Board of Supervisors.

The plan will guide the county’s use of funds for the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) and HOME Investment Partnerships programs. In the past, Henrico has received more than $2 million in annual grant program funds for services, programs, facilities and other assistance to low- and moderate-income residents as well as people who are homeless or have other special needs. The funds support various initiatives, including housing improvements, home purchase assistance, neighborhood recreation facilities and afterschool programs.

The public hearings will be held:

  • Saturday, Feb. 8, 10 a.m. at the Henrico County Recreation & Parks administration building, 6800 Staples Mill Road;
  • Monday, Feb. 10, 6 p.m. at the Eastern Henrico Recreation Center, 1440 N. Laburnum Ave.; and
  • Wednesday, Feb. 12, 6 p.m. at the Tuckahoe Area Library, 1901 Starling Drive.

The public also may provide input at [email protected] and via a survey at henrico.us/revit. The public hearing locations are accessible; individuals who need special accommodations are asked to call (804) 501-7640 at least two days before the hearing.

Agencies interested in applying for CDBG, ESG or HOME funds for the 2020-21 program year may download an application at henrico.us/revit. Applications will be due Monday, March 2.
