Henrico 4-H will offer a wreath-making party and hands-on workshops to help youth learn and have fun while getting into the holiday spirit.
The Deck the Doors holiday party will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4 at the Henrico Extension Office, 6800 Staples Mill Road. Youth ages 5 to 13 will explore the beauty and importance of evergreens while crafting a festive wreath to take home. Holiday festive wear is encouraged. Hot chocolate will be provided. Cost is $5 per person. Online registration will be open through Friday, Nov. 28 or until all spots are filled.
A pair of science-themed workshops geared for youth ages 9 to 13 will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, Dec. 22 and Friday, Jan. 2 at the Belmont Recreation Center, 1600 Hilliard Road. The cost to participate is $25 per workshop. Online registration will be open through Friday, Dec. 12 or until all spots are filled.
The Make it Merry workshop, on Dec. 22, will give participants an opportunity to use polymer clay to craft a holiday ornament and then make another item, such as earrings or a keychain, for themselves or others. The session will explore the science behind polymer clay and how heat and chemistry transform the designs into art.
The Make it Bright workshop, on Jan. 2, will offer participants a chance to build their own light-up, miniature snow globes while exploring the science behind light and energy. The session will explain how circuits and LED lights work and highlight the science behind the northern lights. Participants also will be able to create their own colorful auroras.
