After 18 years of dedicated service and meaningful contributions to the arts community, President/CEO K Alferio has announced her retirement from the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, effective January.

Alferio has played an important role in supporting arts programming, fostering community programming, promoting community engagement and helping the organization grow as a vibrant hub of creativity in Henrico County and the Richmond region. Her commitment to accessible arts experiences and reaching underserved communities leaves a lasting impact on patrons, artists and colleagues alike.
The Cultural Arts Center serves as a cornerstone of the local arts scene, offering performances, exhibits, outreach and educational opportunities that enrich the region. Alferio’s leadership and dedication have been instrumental in advancing the organization’s mission of “building community through the transformational power of the arts.” Alferio has overseen multiple new performance series featuring best-in-class artists; created outreach programs for youth, including art classes in youth detention centers; established an award-winning arts program serving people with dementia and their caregivers; and has been recognized with multiple honors and distinctions.
“Serving the community through the arts has been a joy and is a privilege,” Alferio said. “I am grateful for all the talented artists, dedicated staff, willing volunteers, insightful board members and supportive patrons who make the Cultural Arts Center a magical place. I truly love the center, and it will always be a major part of who I am.”
“For 18 years, K Alferio has embodied arts advocacy at the Cultural Arts Center of Glen Allen,” said Leslie Olma, chair of the center’s Board of Directors. “Her leadership and vision have helped nurture a creative ecosystem that is educational in purpose, inclusive in outreach and consistent in its care for artists and audiences alike. With deepest gratitude, we thank K for a legacy of service that will inspire our community for many more years to come.”
As Alferio prepares to begin this next chapter, which will include a lot of horseback riding and traveling, plans are underway to celebrate her contributions while ensuring a smooth transition. The center remains committed to its mission of enriching the community in new and exciting ways.
