H.E.A.R.T. Paints Out Pollution
Henrico’s Environmental Action Resource Team has joined forces with the James River Association to “Paint Out Pollution.”
In August, volunteers ranging in age from kids to adults, as many as 20 at a time, gathered to promote water pollution awareness by stenciling messages on storm drains at several Henrico facilities.
The program aims to educate the community about the negative impacts that trash and other contaminants have on our waterways. Teams spray-painted multilayer stencils of native species that live in and around the James River on storm drains with the message, “Only Rain Down the Drain.” Some of the species included: belted kingfisher, channel catfish, blue crab, bald eagle, Atlantic sturgeon and prothonotary warbler.
These eye-catching paintings help people see what lives in our area and what we can lose if we fail to be good stewards of our natural resources.
We can do our part in so many ways to keep the James River as healthy as we can. So, look for these “works of art” throughout the community and help spread the word about this program.
You can find them at these locations: Eastern Henrico Recreation Center, Henrico Theatre, Glover Park, Tuckahoe Area Library and Short Pump Park.
Have a green day!
