HEART Bike Racks

Henrico County is making it more convenient for residents to bicycle around the county by installing 16 heart-shaped bike racks at parks, libraries and other county government facilities.

The project is part of the county’s effort to encourage residents to use non-motorized transportation like bicycles to promote a healthier community and reduce the negative impact of fossil fuels on air quality. In addition, the bike racks are intended to enhance county locations for cyclists, giving them more access to facilities and offering them potential peace of mind, knowing their bikes will be secured and that they are helping the environment.

The design of the bike racks incorporates the shape and elements of the HEART logo. The color helps with visibility and serves as a reminder for passers-by to be “greener” with natural resources.

The bike racks can be found at Twin Hickory Area Library, Deep Run Park, Dorey Park, Spring Park, a GRTC bus stop near the Human Services Building, the L.A. Harris, Jr. Courts Building and both government centers.

In addition to the racks, a pilot end of route repair station has been installed at the parking deck of the Henrico Government Center. The station offers a bike lift, tools and an air pump for riders to make minor repairs on location.

As part of this project, Henrico County Public Schools welding students at the Advanced Career Education Center at Virginia Randolph are designing and constructing a set of ten bike racks to be installed at a HCPS location when completed.
