The County of Henrico is conducting a study to evaluate necessary safety and operational improvements along the Route 5 and New Osborne Turnpike corridors. This study is being conducted in partnership with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and the City of Richmond. Public feedback has been collected to better understand existing conditions and identify opportunities to enhance the experience for all corridor users. Traffic data has been analyzed in conjunction with this feedback to assess current operations and inform the development and evaluation of various improvement alternatives. The next step is to present the various improvement alternatives to gather public input. Related Study: VDOT conducted the Route 5 Safety and Operations Study at the request of Henrico County. The study evaluated transportation needs in the segment of Route 5 between Varina Road and Four Mile Run Parkway and prepared recommendations to improve safety and reduce congestion in this area.
