Tyrone Nelson was first elected to the Henrico County Board of Supervisors in 2011 to represent the Varina Magisterial District and has been re-elected each time since then.

He serves on the Virginia Parole Board, Greater Richmond Transit Company Board of Directors, Capital Region Airport Commission, Central Virginia Transit Authority, Richmond Region Planning District Commission, as well as other local, state, and national boards and committees.

Mr. Nelson graduated from Virginia Union University-Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology with a Master of Divinity degree. He received his Bachelor of Science for Business Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University and an Associate Degree in Business from J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College.

Mr. Nelson is also the pastor at Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia.

Varina Community Conversations: Varina Supervisor Tyrone Nelson held a Community Conversation on May 19 at the Varina Area Library. The meeting included an overview of Henrico’s budget for fiscal year 2026-27, updates from the Planning and Public Works departments, floodplain management/flood risk awareness and details about summer programs from the Division of Recreation & Parks, including Juneteenth and July 4.

Varina Community Conversations - April 10, 2025: Varina District Supervisor Tyrone E. Nelson will host a Varina Community Conversations meeting Thursday, April 10 to discuss Henrico’s budget for fiscal year 2025-26 and independent reports of the county’s response to the water crisis of early January. Officials will explain how Henrico’s participation in the federal Community Rating System allows property owners to save on the costs of flood insurance.
