Tyrone E. Nelson, Chair

Tyrone Nelson first was elected supervisor for the Varina Magisterial District in 2011 and has been reelected three times. He served as Board chairman in 2016 and 2019 and is serving in the role again in 2024. He is serving his fourth term as Varina supervisor.
The pastor of Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church, Mr. Nelson is chair of the board of directors for the Greater Richmond Transit Company. He also serves on the Capital Region Airport Commission, Richmond Regional Planning District Commission, Richmond Metropolitan Transportation Authority and Virginia Commonwealth University Board of Visitors.
Mr. Nelson earned an associate degree from J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University. He received a Master of Divinity from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University.
