Volunteer Opportunity: Cheswick Park Trail Restoration

Henrico Volunteer Program in collaboration with VCU Day of Service brings together faculty, staff, students, and community partners for a day of meaningful service across the Greater Richmond region.

Volunteer Description:
Volunteers will assist Henrico Recreation & Parks staff with restoring approximately 100 feet of washed-out trail at Cheswick Park. Volunteers will help move rip rap stone down the trail using a bucket-brigade system. Participants will pass five-gallon buckets of rock from person to person along the trail and return empty buckets back up the line. Buckets will not be filled beyond a comfortable lifting weight. Once the washouts are filled, volunteers will also help cover the area with branches, leaves, and other natural woody debris from the surrounding forest.

Physical Requirements:
This project involves walking on uneven, sloped terrain, standing for extended periods, lifting and carrying buckets of stone, and repetitive movement. Volunteers should be comfortable with physical outdoor work.

What We Provide:
Recreation & Parks staff will provide the rip rap stone, buckets, and other necessary materials.

Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities: This is a hands-on outdoor trail restoration project for 15 volunteers who are comfortable with physical work and uneven terrain.

9am – 1pm
