Henrico Area Prevention Services to present a Hip-Hop Poetry Slam on April 24

Youth are encouraged to submit poems about preventing substance abuse

Henrico Area Prevention Services and its youth ambassadors will present a Hip-Hop Poetry Slam on Wednesday, April 24 to promote self-expression and to discourage substance abuse.

The event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Eastern Henrico Recreation Center, 1440 N. Laburnum Ave.

Entries should be based on a theme of substance abuse and misuse prevention. Participants may register at henricoprevention.org or by contacting Michael Harris at [email protected]. Please include “Hip-Hop Poetry Slam” in the subject line. Entries must be submitted by Monday, April 22 and will be reviewed for appropriate language and content.

The Hip-Hop Poetry Slam is open to all ages. Participants ages 11 to 18 will receive a gift card for their involvement and be eligible to win prizes.
