Community members can provide input and discuss their ideas for the future of the Lakeside Avenue business corridor and nearby area at the Lakeside Area Design Charrette, set for Aug. 25-28 in the Kelly Education Center auditorium at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, 1800 Lakeside Ave.
A charrette is a hands-on planning process that encourages public participation and facilitates collaboration between residents, designers and planners on a vision for a community’s built environment. Participants will have the opportunity to provide immediate feedback to staff at the event, which will be conducted by Henrico’s Planning Department in partnership with Glavé & Holmes Architecture.
The charrette will focus primarily on the business corridor that extends along Lakeside Avenue from Henrico’s border with the city of Richmond, near Bryan Park, to Hilliard Road, as well as Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden and Lakeside Park Club. Project presentations and public input sessions will be held:
- Monday, Aug. 25, 6-7:30 p.m.: participants will meet the project team and offer initial thoughts on topics and properties of interest.
- Tuesday, Aug. 26, 1:30-5:30 p.m.: participants will observe design work underway.
- Wednesday, Aug. 27, noon-1:30 p.m.: participants will review in-progress designs and have opportunities to provide feedback.
- Thursday, Aug. 28, 6-7:30 p.m.: participants will review work completed during the charrette and discuss next steps.
