Henrico to host annual Juneteenth Celebration on June 20 at Dorey Park

Henrico County will celebrate Juneteenth – also known as “Emancipation Day” or “Day of Freedom” – on Saturday, June 20, with family fun and entertainment from 4 to 10 p.m. at Dorey Park, 2999 Darbytown Road. This year’s Juneteenth Celebration will honor the evolution of Black culture since emancipation through an immersive experience of music, art and community.

From 4 to 8 p.m., the event will feature 100 Black-owned businesses in a vendor fair and a kids zone with activities and exhibits including the VMFA on the Road exhibit “Virginia as Americans: Navigating Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.”

Throughout the event, the Juneteenth Celebration will include food trucks and performances by community groups, including Speaking Spirit Ministries, DJ Tony Tone and Soul Expressions. The event will be capped with a performance by Art of Noise RVA at 8 p.m. and a fireworks finale at 9:45 p.m.

“Henrico County’s celebration of Juneteenth has gotten bigger and better each year since it started in 2021 – and this year figures to be no different,” Varina District Supervisor Tyrone E. Nelson said. “Juneteenth offers us another opportunity to come together as a community to reflect on our freedoms and celebrate how they are extended to us all.”

Last year’s Juneteenth Celebration attracted about 24,000 people and recently earned second place in the Outdoor Festival awards category in Style Weekly’s Best of Richmond 2025.
