The County of Henrico will be constructing accommodations to improve pedestrian and vehicular infrastructure while enhancing safety and accessibility along Nine Mile Road between Laburnum Avenue and Carmen Lane. The following improvements will be constructed to include:
- The existing eastbound left turn lane at the western approach of the intersection of Laburnum Avenue will be extended to provide additional storage capacity.
- Pedestrian improvements will include the installation of ADA‑compliant curb ramps, sidewalk, pedestrian crosswalks with associated pavement markings, additional signage, and signal upgrades along the corridor between Laburnum Avenue and Eastgate Boulevard.
- A new signal will be installed at the intersection of Nine Mile Road and Eastgate Boulevard. The improvements will also include two signalized pedestrian crosswalks
- Between Eastgate Boulevard and East Cedar Fork Road, a new sidewalk is proposed along the south side of Nine Mile Road. This will connect the adjacent school to the existing pedestrian facilities to the west of the school parcel.
- New sidewalks are proposed along both sides of Nine Mile Road between East Cedar Fork Road and Carmen Lane.
- A signalized pedestrian mid-block crossing will be installed east of Cedar Fork Road to provide access to the bus stop on the south side of Nine Mile Road at this location.
- GRTC bus stop facilities will be upgraded. The proposed improvements based on ridership could include dedicated concrete bus stop pads, benches and/or shelters.
- The project will implement additional stormwater management facilities in the form of new storm sewer inlets, pipes and ditches. Portions of the existing stormwater infrastructure will be removed and replaced.
