Living In Your Watershed
Living in Your Watershed is designed especially for 4th grade students preparing for a Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience. This program can also be presented independent of a MWEE. It explores the importance of Henrico County’s watersheds and how to protect them. The program includes finding the school’s watershed address and discussing issues that endanger our watersheds. Fourth grade science SOL 4.9 is addressed in this program.
I ♥ SOIL!
This 50-minute program is designed for 3rd grade students. It explores the importance of soil to plants and animals– especially humans! Students make a “soil sundae” or “soil profile card” for extra fun. Third grade science SOL 3.7 is addressed in this program.
Who Polluted the River?
This 30-minute program engages students in an interactive story to learn how, as human populations have grown and land uses have changed, many of our rivers have become polluted. While conservation of our natural resources applies to all ages, the Standards of Learning addressed in this program include: 1.8, 3.6, 3.9 and 3.10.
Weathering-Erosion-Deposition
This is our 50 minute program for 5th graders. W.E.D. examines these three forces of nature that result in new land formations. As in our other classroom programs, games and demonstrations make learning fun. Virginia SOLs 4.9 and 5.7 are addressed.
The Incredible Journey
An old favorite for students in grades K-3, The Incredible Journey allows students to explore the water cycle by rolling a dice and moving to all the places water goes in the cycle.
The Scientific Method
For students in grades 4 and 5, this program introduces the scientific method of asking a question. forming a hypothesis and performing an experiment to test that hypothesis. Students can explore water quality or soil’s ability to hold water with this program.
