Peer Services

Certified Peer Counselors are available to support individuals in our Substance Use Programs by sharing their lived experiences of recovery. Peer Counselors are available for in-person sessions or telehealth one-on-one meetings and can assist individuals in connecting with community resources, sharing about different pathways to recovery, supporting the development of coping skills, and more.  Peers also facilitate group meetings, some of which are open to the public. For information about our peer-led group meetings, please contact our Access Services Call Center at (804) 727-8515.

Peers and the power of personal testimony is often an unparalleled and critical component of individuals’ recovery journeys. Henrico citizen Vada Pedro selflessly shared her story of struggling with opiate addiction, overdosing, and finding lasting recovery to commemorate International Overdose Awareness Day on August 31st. This story exemplifies the power of lived experience that our peers bring to their work every day.

To better understand all of the ways which our peers impact the lives of our clients, staff, and community members, we encourage you to read about one of our peers, Alexis Piero, who was inducted into the Mary Ann Bergeron Hall of Fame for her service after her untimely passing in late 2023.
