Victim / Witness Assistance Program

Victim/Witness Assistance Program

What is the Victim/Witness Assistance Program (V/WAP)?
The Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office helps ensure Henrico County victims and witnesses of crime receive fair and compassionate treatment while participating in the criminal justice system, in addition to receiving the rights entitled to them under the Virginia Crime Victims and Witness Rights Act.

The goal of the program:

To reduce the psychological trauma associated with being a victim of a crime by helping the victim with emotional support, crisis counseling, advocacy, referrals to local social service agencies. Additionally, we can give information on the status of the case, status of the person arrested, the court system and their rights as a crime victim and address safety concerns.

The legal process, frequently long and complicated, often fails to address the unique needs of victims. However, our V/WAP advocates are available to make sure that these needs are addressed.

You can reach the Henrico County Victim/Witness Assistance Program by phone at (804) 501-1680 or by email at [email protected].
