The Keep Henrico Beautiful Committee has selected the winners of its annual awards program that recognizes properties that are beautifully landscaped and highlights best practices for soil and water conservation and sustainable practices.
In its 29th year, the program is honoring each magisterial district’s recipient of the Land Lover Award and a countywide winner of the Clean Business Award. The Board of Supervisors recognized the honorees at its meeting Tuesday.
The winners of the Land Lover Award for residential properties are Edward Deale, of the Brookland District; Laura George, of the Fairfield District; Chris and Marty Migliaccio, of the Three Chopt District; the Schreiber family, of the Tuckahoe District; and Morgan Halverson, of the Varina District. Short Pump Animal Hospital, at 4730 Pouncey Tract Road, is the recipient of the Clean Business Award.
The awards, presented annually since 1995, recognize residential and business properties that are attractively landscaped, well-maintained and litter-free. Nominees for a Land Lover or Clean Business award must also participate in an ongoing recycling program, such as composting, curbside pickup or drop-off service.
The recipients of a Land Lover Award employed a variety of conservation best practices, such as native plantings, pollinator plants, intentional landscaping, composting and demonstrated a deep care and understanding of the plants on their properties.
As the Clean Business Award honoree, Short Pump Animal Hospital was recognized for its pet waste receptacles, extensive recycling program and its “no-mow” portions of the property to allow for native plants and pollinators to thrive.
